Abstract
In biological wastewater treatment process, wastewater characteristics, especially organic carbon source, was a very important parameter. But the biodegradation pattern for each organic is diverse, since wastewater contains a wide variety of different organics. So, the proper estimation of each organic fraction in wastewaters can enable estimation of the process efficiency easier. In this study, the COD fraction was determined by respirometric analysis. In order to estimate the activity of heterotrophs, readily biodegradable COD and slowly biodegradable COD were mixed in a synthetic wastewater, and microorganisms was measured by a simple batch test. The result showed that COD fractions calculated by models were similar to the composition of synthetic wastewater. This implied the applicability of the respirometric method to the estimation of COD fractions in various wastewaters.
